B̶a̶b̶y̶ is a duet between two girls, Bobbie and Dough who are just so so silly. They are permanently stuck in The Day Before, between comfortable inertia and a dramatic trampling of futures. They are filling the day with so much, hoping to make it just a little longer. They can’t exhale yet, they’re just not ready.
During 2-weeks-residency in CO.LABS, Romi and Florence will be working on their research-based performance project, their baby, Baby.
Baby explores femininity as an international phenomenon, as a vastness and an experience that transcends all bodies. They are particularly interested in pregnancy, in its physicality and its urges. They come at it, not from an experience of motherhood (in the broadest of terms), but from a position of fear, of not knowing.
By crafting their internal logic of the world on stage, they want to reappropriate extreme emotions and the right to be dramatic, to be obsessed.
They, Romi (she/her) and Florence (she/her), are international emerging artists. They met in Glasgow where they are currently based and are about to enter their 4th and last year of a Contemporary Performance Practice bachelor's degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Their practice as a duet is built on a fanatic commitment to ideas, even the smallest ones, an obsessive trust in each other and a gratefulness for and generosity to their surroundings.
They generate material by working with various qualities of movement and dance, by rearranging orders and crafting pseudo-symbolic objects as a way to build vibrating visuals and by collaborating on simple, sensuous, sometimes epic, sometimes illogical, sometimes indulgent texts.
During their time, we intend to research the processes, actions and necessities of closeness in duets: between 2 bodies, between a body within a body and between a body in a landscape.
Through the vital work of testing, trying, correcting, crossing out, being stuck, feeling sticky and sweating, they are eager to embody these pulsive, trembling relationships of two and the movements and environments of interdependence.

We will be holding an open studio event to show their findings from the 2 weeks with CO.LABS on Saturday 22nd July at 6pm. Please come! We would love to meet you, discuss what you saw, how it made you feel and what you imagine the show becoming.
